How to help a hotel to implement sustainability in their operation without compromising guest comfort? One of the base requirements to replace and eliminate as many plastics as possible in hotel services, while also creating a natural look in line with the client's branding.

TSG Group has proposed a natural stone based tray that is easy to clean, upon which the grooming assortment is presented. This assortment includes a towel, soap, shampoo and toothbrush holder.

Bamboo has been used as replacement for plastic as base material for the holders and "packaging". Bamboo grows rapidly and reaches maturity within a few years, making it good renewable resource. Additionally it offers a low carbon footprint and can sequester CO2, contributing to reducing climate change. Furthermore, bamboo is known for its antibacterial properties which can be advantageous.

The soap is also of organic origin. In this case, it can even consist of the previously mentioned components: coconut (= organic coconut oil), a piece of loofah, and bamboo extract.

The towels are made of 100% organic cotton, and the cotton fibers used are exceptionally long, giving them an extraordinarily soft feel.

As a body scrubber, luffa is used instead of, for example, a sponge or washcloth. Luffa sponges come from the Cucurbitaceae plant family, which also includes cucumbers, zucchinis, and pumpkins. The products are sterilizable through boiling and reusable, or they can be provided to guests to take it home. Furthermore, this natural product is biodegradable and compostable.

Recipe for organic coconut soap

Based on the above-mentioned ingredients, organic soap can be made.

Ingredients:

  • Organic coconut oil - 200 grams
  • Sodium hydroxide (lye) - 76 grams
  • Organic bamboo extract or bamboo powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Luffa (used as a natural scrub) - 1 piece, cut into small pieces
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Optional essential oil for fragrance (such as lavender, tea tree, or peppermint)

Note: Making soap with lye requires caution. Wear protective clothing, gloves, and safety goggles. Work in a well-ventilated area.
